The largest vertical transportation project in Poland
Poland is currently conducting the largest vertical transportation tender in its history as part of the Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) airport project.
The project includes the supply, installation and maintenance of more than 500 lifts, escalators and moving walkways serving the airport terminal, railway stations, intermodal transport hub, air traffic control tower and other facilities.

Accessibility without barriers — Poland continues to support people with disabilities
Poland is consistently improving accessibility for people with disabilities, older people and everyone with special needs by amending building regulations and implementing nationwide accessibility programmes.
The “Accessibility Plus” programme was implemented between 2019 and 2025, supporting the removal of architectural, transport, digital and communication barriers.
A new five-year programme, “Accessibility 2.0”, is now being launched. It will continue and expand activities aimed at creating buildings, public spaces and services that are accessible, safe and convenient for everyone.
Modern lifts play a particularly important role in this process, enabling people with reduced mobility to use residential, public and commercial buildings independently and safely.

MRiT — amendment of the Technical Conditions for buildings and their location
The new acoustic standard explicitly identifies the lift as a source of noise subject to testing
On 4 August 2026, the Polish Committee for Standardization (PKN) published a new edition of the standard:
PN-B-02151-5:2026-08
“Building acoustics – Protection against noise in buildings – Part 5: Rules for the acoustic classification of buildings.”The standard replaces PN-B-02151-5:2017-10 and introduces a much more comprehensive system for assessing the acoustic quality of buildings. It covers residential buildings, collective residential buildings, public buildings, as well as their separate compact parts.
For residential buildings, the following acoustic classes are defined: AQ-0, AQ-1, AQ-2, AQ-3 and AQ-4. AQ-0 corresponds to the basic acoustic standard, while the subsequent classes represent increasingly higher acoustic standards.
For collective residential buildings and public buildings, the new edition currently specifies requirements corresponding to AQ-0.
For the lift industry, however, something else is particularly important.
The standard explicitly classifies noise generated by the technical equipment of a building under partial requirement B – protection against internal installation noise.
What is more, in the control-testing procedure, PN-B-02151-5:2026-08 explicitly states that the following must be checked:
noise generated by the lift — in at least one room located closest to the lift shaft.
This is a very important change from the point of view of designers, investors, lift manufacturers and installers.
For higher acoustic classes, the requirements are clearly more stringent. In residential rooms, for classes AQ-1 and AQ-2, the permissible installation-noise level is 22 dB for the equivalent sound level and 30 dB for the maximum sound level, while for AQ-3 and AQ-4 the corresponding values are 20 dB and 27 dB. For AQ-0, the requirements of PN-B-02151-2 apply.
This means that the selection of the lift, lift-shaft construction, guide-rail fixing, installation of the drive system, landing and car doors, as well as measures limiting vibration transmission may have a direct impact on whether the entire building achieves the intended acoustic class.
This is particularly relevant in the context of the draft of the new Polish Technical Requirements for Buildings, which provides for the protection of rooms against noise generated by technical equipment, requires lift shafts in multi-family residential and collective residential buildings to be structurally separated from the building as a general rule, and requires the lift drive unit to be installed in a way that prevents vibrations from being transmitted to the building structure.
At the same time, the draft Technical Requirements dated 10 July 2026 still refer in § 351(3) and in Annex 1 to the previous edition, PN-B-02151-5:2017-10.
The new standard was approved on 16 June 2026, but was published only after this version of the draft Technical Requirements had been prepared.
Therefore, the Polish Association of Lift Manufacturers is drawing the attention of the public administration to the need to update the normative reference and to clearly define the relationship between AQ-0, the minimum requirements of PN-B-02151-2, PN-B-02151-3 and PN-B-02151-4, and the classification and acoustic-class certificate procedure under PN-B-02151-5:2026-08.

Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly present in the lift industry — and with it come new legal, organisational and cybersecurity obligations.
On 27 July 2026 Poland published the Act on Artificial Intelligence Systems, establishing the national institutional and procedural framework for the implementation and supervision of AI-related regulations. The main provisions of the Act will enter into force on 11 August 2026. At the same time, Poland will begin establishing the structures responsible for overseeing this area, including the Commission for the Development and Safety of Artificial Intelligence (KRIBSI).

Why this matters for the lift industry
Modern lifts and vertical transportation systems are becoming increasingly advanced digital devices. Remote monitoring, predictive maintenance, data analytics, diagnostics, communication systems, integration with building automation and solutions based on artificial intelligence algorithms are becoming part of everyday practice. At the same time, the importance of cybersecurity, data protection and responsibility for the operation of intelligent systems continues to grow.
This is why one of the conferences accompanying LiftExpo Poland — International Lift, Components and Vertical Transportation Technology Exhibition 2026 — is dedicated to these issues.
The programme will address new legal requirements, cybersecurity of lift systems and components, obligations arising from NIS2 and the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), and the ways in which artificial intelligence and digitalisation may transform the design, operation, maintenance and servicing of lifts in the coming years.

Bio
Mechanical engineer (HTL) with postgraduate economics studies (FH); born in Switzerland in 1973. Daniel Bisang joined the Schindler Group in 1999 and has held various management roles. He is Head of Codes & Standards, responsible for global strategy and the development of international lift and escalator standards. Since 2025 he has also chaired CEN/TC 10/WG 1 and represents Schindler in ELA.

Dr Magdalena Cicharska
Financier, researcher and trainer — AI in business and education
Bio
Financier, researcher and trainer specialising in practical AI adoption in business and education. She is an assistant professor at the SGH Warsaw School of Economics, where she designed and teaches courses on AI tools in learning and research, and serves as secretary of the SGH working group on student use of AI.
She collaborates with researchers at leading academic centres, including Stanford University, and as a visiting professor at the University of Oxford. Her teaching draws on neuroscience and the psychology of learning. She focuses on redesigning real work processes with AI.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfram Vogel (Schorndorf, Germany) studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Karlsruhe (1982–1990). From 1990 he was a scientific assistant at the Institute of Mechanical Handling and Logistics, University of Stuttgart; in 1996 he earned his Dr.-Ing. on Lift technology – Dimensioning of hydraulic buffers for lift application and became head of the department for rope testing and rope applications.
Honorary professor at the University of Stuttgart for person transporting systems (1997); head of the testing and certification body for building products (1998); vice director of the Institute (1999). Since 2001 member of the Expert Committee “Lifts and Testing” at IHK Region Stuttgart and other national and international standardization committees; since 2006 publicly certified expert for elevator, rope and lifting technologies (IHK Region Stuttgart).
Since 2007 Head of Research and Development at Pfeifer DRAKO Drahtseilwerk GmbH (Mülheim a.d. Ruhr); since 2010 Professor for Elevator- and Lifting Technologies at Chemnitz University of Technology; also runs an Engineering Office for Elevator, Rope and Lifting Technology in Schorndorf.
